About James Mark Long

Trained as a Graphic Designer in Bristol and now living in Bath, England, James has been painting animals using photographic reference since 1993.

Originally working in pencil and pastels, and now in acrylics and oils as well, James enjoys painting everything from birds to babies, hamsters to houses, lambs to lions and scenes to Saints. Whilst most requests are for animal and wildlife portraits, an increasing number of commissions are for family portraits, landscapes and houses,

Having achieved noteable success as a Wildlife Artist, James has exhibited his animal portraits across England and in September 2001 attracted a lot of local media interest when his stunning painting of a majestic Sumatran tiger stole the show at the "The Best Of..." (40 local artists) exhibition at the Citadel Gallery, Chippenham. It was here he was first acclaimed as 'the new Sir David Shepherd!'

Sir David later wrote to James saying "...you certainly have considerable talent and I am not in the least surprised that you have decided to launch out on your own. I wish you the very best of luck".
