Commissioning an Animal Portrait
Each portrait is unique and James takes considerable care to capture the finest qualities and character of the animals he is painting.
A selection of good quality photographs usually provide a wealth of visual detail from which James works. Different photographs often illustrate the most characteristic pose, the best colouring and a close-up of the eyes, all of which contribute significantly
towards the final portrait.
His portraits are extremely realistic, expertly portraying the high gloss of an animal's coat or the texture of its fur. James also
has the rare ability of capturing the light in an animal's eyes which really brings the painting to life.
